Uk, Sagay and a number of other nations question the presence of President Omar Al-Bashir of Sudan, the alleged masterminder of the genocide and other atrocities during the Darfur conflict, in Nigeria.

President Omar Al-Bashir, who was said to have come into Nigeria on Sunday for an Africa Union Summit on HIV/AIDS, has created a situation of disagreement among nations and among different sector of Nigerian Economy because of the accusations leveled against him.

In the light of this accusation, different right groups in Nigeria like; the Coalition on the International Criminal Court (NCICC) and Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project(SERAP), have unanimously agreed that he should be apprehended and handed over to International Criminal Court(ICC), in the Hague, over his indictment for alleged crimes in Darfur.

Mr. Mark Simmonds, the United Kingdom’s Minister for Africa has said it is very disappointing for Nigeria to host the accused despite the ICC arrest warrant on Al-Bashir who also has severally denied the said charge.

Sagay also ridiculed the Nigeria Federal Government for allowing Al-Bashir into Nigeria, and the NCICC on the other has called the Nigerian Government before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, requesting the court to compel Federal Government to hand over Al-Bashire to ICC.
