Equipments worth $40,000 were recently donated to the University of South Sudan by the South Sudan Capacity Building Project, CEOAFRICA gathered from Juba, South Sudan.

Receiving the equipments which include laptops, printers, photocopiers, electronic accessories and furniture, the University Principal, Professor Wani Sule said the equipments would be put to good use in the School of Management Sciences, School of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, and the College of Social and Economic Studies.

Furthermore, Prof. Sule appreciates the kind gesture of SSCAP and express optimism that the equipments would facilitate training of the university’s teaching staff to Master’s degree level at universities in the East African Region.

In his address at the occasion, acting Labour and Public Service Minister Kwong Danhier said the government was keen to transform the university into a centre of excellence that would produce high quality manpower for South Sudan’s development.

Mr. Danhier said, “It will be a national pride if the University of Juba produces high quality, disciplined and competent graduates capable of bringing the national capacity gap both in the public and private sectors in order to sustainably achieve our national development goals.”

Also at the occasion, the SSCAP Project Coordinator, Mr. Peter Juma, said the project was committed to give necessary support to the University in various areas including the review of its curriculum, and training up to three teaching assistants in Master’s programmes.

Furthermore, Mr. Juma said,”The project also involves funding the University’s training-related activities including workshops and seminars, and funding short-term tailored courses in accounting, auditing, corporate governance and financial management.”

The University is both a beneficiary institution and a service provider for capacity building under the SSCAP which is funded by the African Capacity Building Foundation, based in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Other beneficiary of the project includes the Bank of South Sudan, South Sudan National Audit Chamber, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, and Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.
