WATER THE CENTRE OF LIFE

Water is the most important nutrient human body needs to survive apart from oxygen. Water is taken in through fluids. Water is vital for human life and water balance in the body is essential for health.2/3 of the human body is water. The proportion of body weight made up of water depends on age and sex.

Regular water consumption is good for our health and diet, it is important in helping with digestion. Water consumption plays an important role for the digestion of solid foods in the body. The digestive system depends on a sufficient amount of water present to help with the breaking down of foods. The stomach lining releases gastric juices that help in breaking down the food into ingestible nutrients, when a lot of water is consumed; it ensures that your body can produce sufficient flow of stomach juices to aid in the process. Your body absorbs the water quickly producing the digestive juice that breaks down your food. Drinking water can help proper circulation of blood in the body. Water helps to carry nutrients and oxygen to the cells, regulates body temperature; Water has a large heat capacity which helps limit changes in the body temperature in a warm or cold environment. Water allows the body to release heat when ambient temperature is higher than body temperatures, when body begins to sweat; the evaporation of water from the skin surfaces cools the body.

Water helps to remove toxins from the body. The kidney is known in its filtering capabilities and it depends totally on water for it to function. The kidney removes waste products from the blood, eliminates toxic substances in the urine and receives water-soluble toxins from the liver for processing. They filter large volume amounts of blood each day, maintaining the body’s water balance.

Water consumption helps in the protection of movements of joints, organs and tissue in the body .In between the joint a lining of cartilage uses water as a cushion between the bones so as to allow easy movement of the joints. It can also be useful in protecting the spinal cord from shock and damage. Water helps to create most enzymatic and chemical reactions that occur in the body. Water transport nutrients, hormones, oxygen and antibodies through the lymphatic system and blood stream. Proteins and enzymes function more efficiently in lower viscosity fluids which it is important to balance with proper intake of water. Water consumption helps to metabolize fat which is the job of liver to do so; it needs water to do so.

Water keep the body hydrated, the body gets dehydrated when there is a low intake of water in the body, working twice as hard to ration and distribute the amount of available water. Dehydration causes side effects on the body like:  Tiredness, migraine, constipation, muscle cramp, irregular blood pressure and kidney problem and symptoms of dehydration could be: dark yellow and strong smelly urine, dry skin, thirst, hunger and fatigue. Studies have shown that healthy ones meet their daily needs of water intake.

Water consumption is crucial to healthy life style. Without water our body shuts down because it is needed for so many functions in the body. You should not drink water when you feel you are thirsty because usually your body already needs water even before you feel thirsty. No one can live without water for 3-5 days; therefore water is at the center of life.

  • Lose Weight: Drinking water helps you lose weight because it flushes down the byproducts of fat breakdown. Drinking water reduces hunger; it’s an effective appetitite suppressant, so you will eat less.

  • Brain is mostly made up of water, drinking water helps you think better, more alert and more concentrated.
  • Drinking water regulates your body temperature; you will feel more energetic when doing exercises. Water also helps to fuel your muscles.
  • Helps in digestion and constipation. Drinking water raises your body metabolism because it helps indigestion. Fiber and water goes hand in hand so you can have your daily bowel movement.
  • Less cramps and sprains.
  • Less likely to get sick and feel healthy.
  • Relieves fatigues.
  • Good mood.
