Following an alleged assault on a doctor who was on official duty in August 2016, which has prompted the Nigeria Medical Association’s (NMA) directive to its members to withdraw medical services to the police, the Commissioner of Police in Zamfara state, Shaba Alkali, has urged doctors to rescind their threat.

According to Ceoafrica, Mr Alkali pleaded with doctors in Gusau, over the directive given to them by the NMA’s chairman, Tijani Abubakar and secretary, Mannir Bature.

The commissioner said that the doctors’ action was too harsh, adding that they did not discuss the issue with him, and that since they know that he’s new in the state, they should have come for a discussion before taking any action, especially when women and children are involved.

Mr Alkali added that he has directed his deputy to immediately arrange a meeting with the doctors today in order to resolve the matter amicably.
