The All Progressives Congress, (APC) national working committee has finally agreed to hold a national convention of the ruling party in April.

The decision, according to a statement signed by the party national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, was the outcome of the national leadership meeting of the party, led by its chairman, Odigie Oyegun.

By the provision of the APC Constitution, its national convention must be held once in two years. But since the emergence of the former Edo state governor as chairman in June 2014, no convention of the erstwhile main opposition party has been conducted, except the presidential convention held in December of same 2014 which produced incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari as the party presidential candidate.

The national publicity secretary in the statement disclosed that ‘’the processes leading to the National Convention will commence with the Congress to fill vacancies in the State Party structures across the country.

Abdullahi further disclosed that “the Congresses will be followed by the National Caucus meeting, and finalised with the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Party, which will consider and set the dates for the National Convention, which is expected to hold not later than April of 2017.”
