Over issues of kidnapping which have been affecting students, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, Kayode Aderanti, has called on private schools to invest more in the security of lives and property of their students.

According to Ceoafrica, the AIG made the call today at a security meeting with stakeholders, who included parents/guardians and management of Corona School, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Aderanti urged school proprietors to have functional Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) effectively covering their entire facility and engage in thorough background checks of their teaching and non-teaching staff before employing them.

He assured them that the police will always be available to fully engage the services of its Central Criminal Registry (CCR) in that regard.

The police boss called on school managements to interface with the nearest police division, conduct regular drills in preparation for emergencies and participate actively in the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).

Aderanti also urged the school proprietors to participate in the recently launched Eminent Persons Forum adding that “we urge you to invest in security of lives of your students. It pays to invest in security”.

He hinted that “life is precious; therefore, we should consider the safety of our wards in schools, and government should consider security compliance as one of the requirements in the issuance of licenses to schools”.

The school management, parents and guardians, however, expressed their appreciation for the opportunity as they were provided with answers to their questions on how they can provide security for their school.
