Days after Somalia’s president, Mohamed Abdullahi vowed to tackle insecurity amidst threats by al-shabab militants, a car laden with explosives has blown up near an army checkpoint outside Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, wounding four soldiers.

According to Ceoafrica, soldiers reportedly chased the driver before he detonated the explosives, which a security officer also corroborated by saying "we received information of the car bomb and we pursued it, but he blew up while we were chasing him".

Although, al-Shabab has always taken responsibility for blasts and gun attacks in the capital, but it remains unclear, who the perpetrators of the acts are.

Moreover, on Sunday, a car bomb in Mogadishu killed at least 39 people and fighters affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) have also emerged in Somalia.
