The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor, Economic Policy, Dr. Sarah Alade, has retired.

Dr Alade is retiring after 23 years of services and spending two terms as the deputy governor as required by law.

At a dinner in her honour by the Economic Policy Directorate of the CBN in Abuja, the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, said Dr Alade was leaving at a time when the ovation was loudest.

He said he enjoyed a robust working relationship with her even as he thanked her for all the support she rendered him while still in service adding that the CBN would also leverage on her wise counsel even in retirement. “She did so well and I had excellent relationship working with her”, he said.

Dr. Alade was appointed Deputy Governor, Economic Policy, on 26th March, 2007. At some point, she acted as the CBN governor when the erstwhile CBN governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was removed by the then President, Goodluck Jonathan.

As a deputy governor, economic policy, she superintended over the economic policy directorate, comprising research, monetary policy, financial markets, trade and exchange and statistics departments.

As chair of the Monetary Policy Implementation Committee (MPIC) she interfaced with the operational departments and coordinated technical inputs for Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).
