Following the outcry from Nigerians after History was expunged from school curricula, the Federal Government has re-introduced the subject into primary and secondary schools.

In a Press release made available to CEOAfrica, The National Council for education, the highest body on matters of educational policy yesterday 30th July 2017 launch the approval of re-introduction of history as an independent subject in the Nigerian elementary and junior secondary school system which will kick start in September this year as schools resume.

The approval of history in elementary and junior secondary school is set to be the first nine (9) years of the school system. The approval which was said to have a great deal of opposition was made manifest through the help of Minister for Education Hon. Mallam Adamu Adamu through his ruggedness and persistence in getting history back.

The Historical Society of Nigeria, the major advocate for the return of History, noted that yesterday was a red letter day, a major turning point at which History teaching in Nigerian schools received a major boost.
