Police authorities in Kano have blamed supporters of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso for allegedly causing the political violence that left dozens of people injured in Kano last week.

It would be recalled that scores of supporters of Kwankwasiyya were injured following a clash between them and supporters of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje during the famous Hawan Daushe, held at Kofar Kudu, emir’s palace in Kano.

Addressing a press conference on behalf of the Police Commissioner, Rabi’u Yusuf, the Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Magaji Musa Majia, said members of Kwankwasiyya faction of APC were responsible for the clash.

He said these people converged at Hasiya Bayero Hospital in thousands with their supporters drawn from Sokoto, Kogi, other neighbouring states and various Local Government areas of Kano state with the ulterior motives to disrupt the Hawan Daushe, an occasion organized by the emirate council.

Majia, who was reacting to press briefing by Kwankwasiyya group, said “Although the occasion was not political congregation, but Kwankwasiyya members were chanting “Ba ma yi” “Ba ma yi” “Ba ma yi”, meaning “we are not in support, we are not in support”  “we are not in support.” This happened when the factional group sighted the convoy of Kano state Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje approaching the venue of the occasion and suddenly started pelting the convoy.”

Majia explained that with the deliberate caused of such chaos, a clash ensued between the two APC factions, but with the quick intervention of the Police, normalcy was restored.

He said, “Some notable Kwankwasiyya ardent supporters including former Commissioner, Dr Yunusa Adamu Dangwani, former Secretary to the State Government Dr Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, former Director Special Services, Alhaji Danyaro Yakasai were rescued and escorted by the Police to their respective residences safely.”

He, however, regretted that it was quite disheartening that same people that caused the pandemonium had turned a leaf of shame against the Police that saved their lives from being lynched.

He assured that no amount of propaganda, intimidation, misrepresentation and total evasion of facts would deter the police from carrying out their constitutional duty of maintaining law and order.

“The Police Command is hereby issuing a stern warning to all miscreants under whatever guise, that it will not fold its hands and watch thugs hatching ugly situation that may lead to mayhem in the entire state,” the police spokesman.
