The Commissioner for Sports in Ogun, Adeshola Faleti, says the state athletes are determined to improve on their performances at the 3rd National Youth Games (NYG) ongoing in Ilorin.

Faleti told newsmen in Ilorin on Saturday that the state was not in Ilorin for jamboree but to win medals.

He said the state would ensure that its athletes dominate the National team in future.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Ogun came second at the 2nd edition of NYG with 25 medals made up of eight gold, 12-silver and five bronze.

“We are here to win more gold medals. Last year feat was good but we will improve on it.

“What we are after in Ogun is the good performance of our athletes and to ensure that majority of them are in the National camp,” Faleti said.

According to him, the state has 150 athletes participating in 26 sports; Volleyball, basketball, handball, Boxing, Wrestling, Judo, Taekwondo, badminton, Table tennis, Tennis, Track and field events, and swimming among others.

He commended the Gov. Ibikunle Amusan for his timely intervention in ensuring that the team features in the third edition.
