Plateau United of Jos have won the Nigeria Professional Football League, the first time in the club’s history.

They defeated the defending champions Rangers International 2-0 on Saturday to lift the cup at their Rwang Pam Stadium.

United are the 19th champion of the league.

The champions’ first goal came through Chukwuemeka Umeh in the 25th minute before Benjamin Turba doubled the lead in the 88th minute.

In the second half, Rangers played with a great deal of intent but were unlucky not to have equalised till the game fizzled out.

Plateau United will get a prize money of N50 million and will represent Nigeria at the African Confederation Cup.

The Jos-based team was relegated in 2011/12 and was promoted back to the top flight in 2015.
