Oyo PSN meets NURTW, NDLEA ahead of 2017 Pharmacy Week

In preparation for the upcoming 2017 Pharmacy Week, the Oyo State Chapter of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has embarked on courtesy visits to the Oyo State Chapters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

A statement made available to CEOAfrica by the Public Relation Officer of PSN, Pharmacist Michael Durowaiye, revealed that the purpose of the courtesy call was to invite the two bodies to the health education /enlightenment on safety with drugs during the Pharmacy Week which is starting from Friday 29th September to Thursday 5th October, 2017 at the Daylan Events and Conference Centre, Ijokodo, Sango, Eleyele Road, Ibadan.

The Chairman of PSN, Oyo State Branch of PSN, Pharmacist Abiodun Ajibade led the visiting team which comprised of the PSN PRO, Pharm Durowaiye and the ACPN Chairman, Pharm Ajao Ajibade, first to the office of the Oyo State Commander NDLEA, Mrs Faboyede and then to the office of the South-West Zonal Chairman, NURTW, Alhaji Toafeek Oyerinde alias Fele at the NURTW Headquarters.

Speaking during the visit, Mrs Faboyede expressed delight at the invitation to the 2017 Pharmacy Week and stated her readiness to join forces with PSN and NAFDAC to enhance the enforcement of Federal Government regulations on drugs in its entirety across the state. She also took the opportunity to reemphasise the commitment of NDLEA to rid the country of charlatans and merchants of death dealing in drugs.

The South-West Zonal Chairman of NURTW, Alhaji Oyerinde in his office warmly welcomed the visiting team and expressed his appreciation at the courtesy call. He also gave his unequivocal support for the upcoming programme, noting that access to safe drugs is pertinent to national development.

The 2017 Pharmacy Week which is themed Pharmaceutical Industry: Panacea to National Economic Recovery will feature a lot of enlightening activities as well as discourse on the role of pharmacy in economic development.

Pharm. Ajibade explained that the programme was organised to deliberate on how the potentials of the pharmaceutical industry can be harnessed to benefit the country economically. He noted that the Managing Director, Miraflash Pharmaceuticals, Pharm. Moses Oluwalade will be speaking on the theme.

 This Pharmacy Week 2017  programme is supported  by Bond Chemicals Industries Ltd .

Activities lined up for the event are: Prayers at the University College Hospital(UCH) Mosque on Friday; Health walk and aerobics on Saturday; Thanksgiving Services at Winners Chapel, Bashorun on Sunday; Press Conference and Health Education for NURTW members on Tuesday; Opening Ceremony on Wednesday and Scientific session, exhibition, dinner/award night to round it up on Thursday.
