The Federal Government has said former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke will not be repatriated back to the country to face criminal charges against her.

Recall that the former Petroleum Minister had on Tuesday urged a Lagos Federal High Court to compel the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami to repatriate her back to Nigeria to defend a criminal charge against her.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had mentioned her name in a N450m money laundering case before the Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the court.

But, addressing State House Correspondents after today’s weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Malami, said the Federal Government “will not take any decision that will jeopardise what the UK government is doing”.

According to Malami, “The truth of the matter is that steps have been taken by the United Kingdom authorities on issues bothering on corrupt practices involving Nigerians.

“If Nigeria feels strongly that there is need to bring Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke here to face charges of corruption, government will not hesitate to do that.

“As things are now, there is no need for that since the UK Government is already investigating her and government will not take any decision that will jeopardise what the UK Government is doing.”
