Nigeria’s D’Tigress now 14th in latest FIBA ranking

Nigeria women’s National team D’Tigress have moved up three placed to 14th in the new rankings released by FIBA on Thursday.

The women’s national team garnered 366.6 points to be ranked the first team in Africa.

They are also the second highest climbers, only bettered by Mozambique, who moved up seven places to 36th in the world and third in Africa.

D’Tigress moved up after qualifying for the 2020 Olympics, defeating Mozambique and losing to Serbia and USA in the process.

The top six in the world ranking is unmoved with USA, Australia, Spain, Canada, France and Turkey in that order, dominating the ranking.

Belgium moved up two places to be ranked seventh in the world, while Serbia and China are ranked eight and ninth ahead of Japan in 10th.

Senegal are the second ranked African country, 28th in the world, while Angola and Mali make up the top five ranked African countries at 41st and 45th  in the world respectively.

D’Tigress will know their Olympics opponents on March 21, when FIBA will hold the draws, with the February rankings to be used in determining the seeding.
