THE CONTINENTAL PRESIDENT OF WIMAfrica CELEBRATES SEA FARERS DAY

Today the 25th of June marks the International Day of the Seafarers’. African Women in Maritime (WIMAfrica) has joined the rest of the world in the commemoration of this day.

The Continental President of WIMAfrica, Mrs. Jean Chiazor Anishere, has joined fellow sea farers across the world and especially across Africa to observe this day.

In her message, she celebrates the day with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) by acknowledging IMO’s activities and appreciating the seafarers for their contribution to the stability of the world during this changing conditions and serious situation the world has found itself in.

She also congratulates members of WIMAfrica on the commemoration of this day. Mrs. Anishere maintains that her stated agenda for WIMA will be furthered and achieved. She promises to continue to ensure the advancement of gender equality in the maritime sector and support mainstream women participation in all aspect of the economy.

On a final note, the president requests the support of the public for women in the maritime industry. She stated that women sea farers face huge risks and personal cost while on their jobs. She mentions that the women should be encouraged, embolden and supported at all times.

Mrs. Jean Chiazor Anishere is a Lawyer by profession, she hold a Masters Degree in Transport Management. She was a former President of Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA-NIG); a former President of WIMAfrica, Nigeria chapter. She was also the former Vice President of WIMAfrica. She was the First Secretary and Legal Adviser to the Ship Owners Association of Nigeria amongst others.
