George Furey will meet Egyptian parliament';;s speaker Ali Abdel-Aal and a number of state officials

The speaker of Canada’s Senate, George Furey, will be visiting  Egypt’s parliament on Sunday, a statement from the Canadian embassy said, alongside a large delegation from Canada’s parliament.

Discussions with the speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, Ali Abdel-Aal, will explore opening new channels of cooperation between the two countries in political, legislative, economic and security terms, the statement further disclosed.

“Speaker Furey is also expected to meet with a large number of top government officials and statesmen to discuss all aspects of relations between Canada and Egypt,” read the statement.

His visit comes after a long period of preparation between officials and diplomats from Egypt and Canada, the statement said.

Furey, a lawyer, is the 45th Speaker of the Senate.

He was appointed to the Senate in August 1999, and named speaker of in December 2015.
