CP. Johnson Babtunde Kokumo (mni) is an incorruptible, indefatigable, energetic, dynamic, professional, sociable, humble and a passionate crime fighter.

He was born into the family of Kokumos of Alimosho, in Alimosho LGA of Lagos State. He has grown to become an achiever.

EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT:

He attended University of Lagos where he obtained a post-graduate qualification of Master of Science degree in Sociology with specialization in Criminology.

He bagged Bachelor of Science degree with honours in Sociology at the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria.

ENLISTMENT INTO THE NPF, COURSES/SEMINARS ATTENDED:

He enlisted as a Cadet ASP into NPF on the 15th March, 1988.

He is an Alumnus of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos

He has attended many courses, seminars and workshops

In the course of his sojourn in the NPF, he attended the following among others:

Mobile Police Squadron Commanders retreat;

Workshop on Human Rights – this is the reason why he has zero tolerance for Human Rights and Dignity Violation, Infringement and abuse.

Workshop on Human Trafficking and Forensic Science.

Senior Executive Course 41, 2019 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).

He is a member of International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP);

With all these knowledge, you will agree with me that the Commissioner of Police is vast in every area. He is an all-rounder. He is a jack of all trade, master of all.

WORK EXPERIENCE AND APPOINTMENT

He was the Operations officer in Lagos State Command, during the reign of terror of notorious armed robber, Sina Ranboo.

He was once a Teaching and Directing Staff at the Nigeria Police premier Training Institution, that is, Police College, Ikeja.

Divisional Police Officer in both Lagos and Ogun State Commands.

Squadron Commander, NO 16 PMF, Abeokuta, Ogun State; during the reign of terror of notorious Amani Tijani- a cross-border bandit.

As an operational and energetic officer, he served as Assistant Commissioner of Police.

ACP in-charge of Operations in Ogun State;

Area Commander, Karewa, Adamawa State; where he participated effectively in the fight against Boko Harram elements/terrorists.

ACP in-charge of Anti-Robbery and Anti-Kidnapping, Special Ops, South-East, Nigeria;

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) General Investigation Section of Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Dept;

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), in-charge of Operations, Lagos State Police Command.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in-charge of Operations, Anambra State  Police Command;

Commissioner of Police (CP) in-charge of Force Armament Section, Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Edo State Police Command.

Please, permit me to talk a little about his achievement as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Edo State Police Command.

He assumed duty as the 38th Commissioner of Police in Edo State Command where he took over from his predecessor, CP Haliru Gwandu, now AIG Haliru Gwandu, mni.

He came in when criminal activities were at the peak. He succeeded in reducing criminal activities to the barest tolerable minimum.

His tenure witnessed a revolutionary change in the act of Policing as criminals particularly kidnappers were fought on the land, on the waters and from the air.

WORK EXPERIENCE IN OSUN COMMAND:

On assumption of duty as the new Commissioner of Police in Osun State, the CP in his maiden address vowed to take the bull by the horn to rid crimes and criminality out of Osun State, and to attest to his words as a crime buster wherever he is posted to:

He unraveled criminal hide out in Ikoyi-Ile, where a 400 level student of Lagos State University was lured to, by a friend and gruesomely murdered. The culprits were arrested and charged to court for prosecution.

Arrest and successful prosecution of suspects who conspired and armed themselves with dangerous weapons, set ablaze the Palace of Baale, Odemuyiwa Village on 10th of March, 2020.

Arrest of suspected armed robbers who conspired and invaded a house at Telemu on 1st April, 2020 and recovery of a Toyota Camry car belonging to the victim.

Arrest of Cannabis Sativa (Indian hemp) dealer- a fake acclaimed Senior Police Officer was intercepted along Okemesi junction, Esa-Oke on 7th May, 2020.

Arrest of 27 illegal miners including 17 Chinese and 10 Nigerian on 3rd of May, 2020 and 10 Chinese and a Ghanaian on 18th May, 2020 respectively.

Arrest of suspected Cultists, Armed bandits and serial killers terrorizing Ede community and its’ environ on 2oth May, 2020. And many other outstanding successes/achievements.

AWARDS AND COMMENDATIONS:

Permit me to mention a few because of time constraint.

He was awarded by the Africa Security watch for most outstanding Anti-Crime Police Chief in West Africa.

Merit award by Nigeria Bar Association, Benin branch.

Young lawyers Forum, Benin, merit award.

Treasure Minds Award for outstanding performance in Crime Control and

2018 Police Community Relations Committee award of Excellence.

The CP is a loving husband to a beautiful, industrious, supportive, carrier woman, a mother, an epitome of love, Irene Afolashade Kokumo. They are blessed with glorious children.

HOBBIES

He loves reading, traveling, gaming and playing Table Tennis.

The man with all these traits is no other person, but CP Johnson.  Babatunde Kokumo (mni).
