Osun footballer slumps and dies during Adola football Championship

A young man named Damilola Oladapo was reported to have slumped and died during a football match in Ido-Osun, Egbedore Local Government area of Osun State.

Oladapo fondly called Dammy was in his 20s and was playing for Premier FC Ofatedo in a grassroot competition tagged, Adola football Championship when the incident occurred.

 According to report Dammy slumped on the pitch when the match was on going in the afternoon and was quickly rushed to a private hospital in the town, but he could not be attended to. He was later rushed to the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, where he was confirmed dead upon arrival and the body was deposited at the hospital morgue.

The incident was confirmed by the Coordinator, Osun Grassroots Football Coaches Association, Coach Leke Hamzat who described the event as unfortunate. He maintained that althoughhe was absent at the time of the occurrence when the tragic and painful death of Damilola occurred.

The coordinator said the deceased was a good young man who never showed any sign of illness. He said he can’t explain how it all happened.

It was gathered that parents of the deceased did not show interest in post mortem investigation and the young footballer’s death was not reported to the police. According to report, his body was buried at Ido-Osun on Tuesday afternoon.
