Some church members from Enugu were returning back from a burial in Edda, Afikpo south LGA, Ebonyi State, they were all in convoy of 2 numbers of 608 buses, mini buses and small cars.

One of the 608 buses wanted to overtake ITC bus on top of Akaezeukwu bridge in Akaeze, Ebonyi State without noticing an oncoming Trailer, before the 608 driver realised the Trailer, it was already too late,  the Trailer hit the bus and the mentire passengers plunged into the River.

An eyewitness account said “I was inside another bus going to Afikpo from Akaeze, we arrived at the scene about 15 minutes after the incidence happened. Some villagers that knows how to swim jumped into the river, as at when we were still there, about 6 persons were rescued with a particular pregnant woman looking lifeless.

On my return back to Akaeze, we got to the same scene around 7pm, Police had cordoned off the area,  vehicles were not allowed to cross, lots of sympathisers on top of the bridge.
