[BREAKING] Edo election: PDP leads in Ize-Iyamu’s local govt

Peoples Democratic Party has won Orhiomwon, the local government of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Edo State Governorship Election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu in the 2020 election.

As announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission announced, APC polled 10,458 votes while PDP got 13,445 votes in Orhiomwon.

Ize-Iyamu hails from Iguododo in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.

Earlier, the running mate of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the Edo governorship election, Philip Shaibu, lost the election in his local government, Etsako west, to the APC.

INEC’s result from Etsako West showed that PDP secured 17,959 votes and APC polled 26,140 votes.

The election held in 18 Local Government Areas, 192 Wards, and 2,627 polling units.

Further distribution of registered voters in the three senatorial districts of the state shows that Edo South has the highest figure of 1,281,414; the North with 564,122; and Central senatorial district has 364,998.

Edo South has seven council areas, the North has six, while Central has five Local Government Areas.

Although 17 political parties have fielded candidates for the election, it is a two-way race between the APC and the PDP.

Incumbent Governor Obaseki of the PDP ran against the APC standard-bearer Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Obaseki was elected on the APC’s platform in 2016 but defected to the PDP after being denied the ticket owing to intra-party squabbles.
