The Egyptian Health Ministry announced Friday evening that 106 new coronavirus cases were detected over the past day, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 104,262.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 12 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 6,029.

As many as 68 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 97,592 so far, the spokesman said.

Russia's Sovereign Wealth Fund said last week that it had agreed to supply 25 million doses of its potential COVID-19 vaccine to Egypt through Pharco, considered as one of Egypt's leading pharmaceutical groups.

Also, Egypt has carried out the third phase of its first clinical trial of two Chinese coronavirus vaccines. The Ministry of Health announced “promising results” and that the vaccine is set to be available for the public after its effectiveness is fully confirmed.
