The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, has on Wednesday, in a press release signed by its President, Comrade Quadri Olaleye and Secretary General, Comrade Musa-Lawal Ozigi, congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala following her election as the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
The statement which was made available to CEOAfrica, equally showed appreciation to the Federal Government of Nigeria and all the countries that voted in her favour.
Part of the statement reads; “Her emergence confirms that Nigerians, nay Africans are great people. Dr Okonjo-Iweala needs no introduction, having spent over 25-years of her career at the World Bank as a Development Economist. She rose to become the Managing Director, Operations (2007–2011), after which she served two terms as Finance Minister of Nigeria (2003–2006, 2011–2015).
“As a renowned global finance expert, an economist and international development professional with decades of experience we strongly believe she will bring her experience to bear now that the world economy needs a dynamic transformation”.
While citing the present economic crises the world is facing, Comrade Olaleye in his statement said that “this is actually the time we need her experience and expertise. She spearheaded several World Bank initiatives, especially during the global financial crisis. She is not new in crisis management.
The TUC thereafter implored Nigerians and the world at large to give her all necessary support in the areas of initiation and execution of good policies for the betterment of all.
