The National President of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Qaudri Olaleye has said that he is hopeful that the federal government will reverse the recent increment in the price of fuel.

Comrade Olaleye disclosed this in a chat with CEOAFRICA after the association’s dialogue with the federal government on the increase in Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popular known as ‘fuel’ price and the proposed electricity tariff adjustment.

He said, “We hope to resume the discussion on Monday December 7 to look at the reversal of the most recent PMS Price increment and also finding an everlasting solution to the continuous increase in fuel price.”

Representing the Federal Government, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, while briefing the media after the meeting with the Union on Thursday night at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, said the message from the union has been clearly received adding that the meeting has been adjourned for one week to give the government time to carry out consultations on the matter.

Ngige said, “By Monday, December 7, we will come back, because the message from the organized labour is clear. They want a reversal of the pump price to what it was. So, the government side will take it back to our principals.

“Even though the government is not fixing the price of PMS anymore because it is deregulated, it is part of the economy. So, the government side will consult anybody that needs to be consulted.”

However, Comrade Olaleye said that the organized labour is hopeful that the Federal Government will reverse the fuel price to what is used to be before now.

He added that the Group Managing Director of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, Mallam Mele Kyari had during the meeting requested for a week to hold consultations with his principals and the organized labour had acceded to his request.

“We want to reach an agreement that would move the country forward, and especially satisfy the expectations of the Nigerian workers,” he stated.
