Twitter has removed a tweet by Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei saying COVID-19 vaccines produced in the United States and the United Kingdom are ‘untrustworthy’.

Twitter has described Khamenei’s tweet as ‘false or misleading information’ about COVID-19 vaccination and replaced it with "no longer available because it violated the Twitter Rules".

The U.S social media company, in December, had released a statement that "vaccine misinformation presents a significant and growing public health challenge- and we all have a role to play"

Recall that the Iranian leader on Friday tweeted that he prohibits the importation of COVID-19 vaccines made in the US or the UK in his country.

“They are completely untrustworthy. It is not unlikely they would want to contaminate other nations.”

He added that “Given our experience with France’s HIV-tainted blood supplies, French vaccines are not trustworthy either,”
