The U.S Vice President, Mike Pence, has told the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that he would not invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office as directed by her.

The Vice President Pence said this in a letter he sent to Pelosi on Tuesday, which is made available to CEOAFRICA.

He said in the letter, “With just eight days left in the President’s term, you and the Democratic Caucus are demanding that the Cabinet and I invoke the 25th Amendment.

“I do not believe that such a course of action is in the best interest of our nation or consistent with our Constitution.”

He added that “last week I did not yield to pressure to exert power beyond my constitutional authority to determine the outcome of the election, and I will not now yield to efforts in the House of Representative to play political games at a time so serious in the life of our nation.”

Pence noted that, the present situation in the country has called for unity to heal, and not to invoke punishment on anyone.

He thereby “urged the House speaker and every member of the Congress to avoid actions that would further divide and inflame the passions of the moment.”

Below is the copy of the letter:

Recall that Pelosi ordered Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment for the removal of Trump from office, stating that his failure to do that would prompt her lead the process of Trump’s impeachment in the house.

The 25th Amendment is designed to ‘address presidential incapacity or disability.’
