Amidst the second wave of COVID-19, schools in Nigeria reopen on Monday, 18th January as directed by the Federal Government, however, some schools with their staff and students have shunned warnings by not complying strictly with the COVID-19 protocols.

Both private and public schools in some parts of the country are monitored to see if they would comply with the COVID-19 guidelines the Federal Government ordered them.

In some public schools, it was observed that only few staff members and students washed their hands before entering, despite the availability of water and soap in some schools.

Also, there was no temperature check for both teachers and staff beore they entered school premises.

It was also noticed that some teachers and students exchanged greetings by hugging and shaking of hands by one another.

In fact, some students do not come with their face masks, though they were sent back by the schools’ security guards.

However, the story is different in some private schools as they ensure total compliance with the COVID-19 protocols.

Some of the schools visited by Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, followed the COVID-19 protocols.

Some of the schools she visited in Agege area are Diary Farm Senior Secondary School, District Junior College, Sango Junior Secondary School, Agege, Sango Senior Secondary School. These schools were said to have their hands watched, temperature checked and ensured the students entered the school with their nose covers on.
