The Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, has said Nigeria and the Republic of Cuba will collaborate on the production of coronavirus vaccine.

He made this know on Monday, during the visit of the Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, Clara Pulido-Escandell, in his office in Abuja.

Onu commended the Cuban Government for its various interventions in the health sector, especially during the outbreak of Ebola virus in Nigeria.

He said “Nigeria used to produce vaccine in the past, as the country is gradually moving into medium income economy by classification, we need to produce our own indigenous vaccine.”

Earlier, the envoy Escandell said her country had created the capacity for the production of over 100 million coronavirus vaccines for a population of 11.4 million people before the end of the year.
