The reopening of 10 schools that were shut down by Kwara state government due to hijab controversy has caused violence between the Christians and the Muslims in the state.
It was gathered that students some Christians were at the entrance of the Baptist School, Surulere, protesting against the use of hijab, thereby hindering students wearing hijab from entering.
It was disclosed by a source that this eventually led to a clash that had both religious bodies throw objects at themselves.
However, it took the intervention of security operatives to restore peace.
During their protest, the Christians displayed placards with various inscriptions such as ‘No Hijab in Baptist Schools and all mission/grant-aided schools’, ‘Otoge, give us back our schools, among others.
It was also learnt that there was a protest at C&S College, Sabo Oke, Ilorin.
Recall that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had warned Governor AbdulRazaq against his approval of hijab-wearing in the schools which could spark religious violence in the state.
CAN noted that there was a pending court case on the matter, and had vowed to use all lawful means to reverse the directive if the governor should fail to heed its call.
