INEC: Today is Deadline for Submission of Nomination Forms

As part of preparations for the February 14 and 28 general elections, political parties seeking to sponsor candidates for election have up till Tuesday as deadline to submit their nomination forms to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The schedule of activities for General Elections, 2015, said that the last day for the submission of Nomination forms by Political Parties is slated for Tuesday.

According to the guidelines, the time-table scheduled the last day for submission of nomination forms for Presidential and National Assembly by parties for January 6th 2015, while Governorship and State Houses of Assembly have till January 20th, 2015.

The commission in accordance with section 32,37,38,39 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended), is directed to appoint time for submission.

According to timetable, the publication of official register of voters for the election is expected on January 13.

Section 30 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) provides not later than 30 days before the election.

INEC had last week released the names of the Presidential candidates for the February 14 election. Besides the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, and others included presidential candidates for Action Alliance, Tunde Anifowose-Kelani; Kowa Party, Prof. Oluremi Sonaiya; United Progressives Party; Chief Chekwas Okorie; and National Conscience Party, Chief Martin Onovo.

Others are African Democratic Congress, Dr. Ibrahim Nani; United Democratic Party, Godson Okoye; Alliance for Democracy, Rafiu Salau; Peoples Party of Nigeria, Kelvin Alagoa.

Allied Congress Party of Nigeria is fielding, Alhaji Ganiyu Oseni; African People’s Alliance, Alhaji Adebayo Ayeni; and Hope Democratic Party, Ambrose Owuru.
