Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has said the state government will launch its own local security outfit before the end of May, 2024.

The governor, who stated this on Tuesday during the All Progressives Congress, APC, stakeholders’ meeting in Makurdi, said the move was aimed at complementing the efforts of other security agencies in tackling security challenges bedeviling the state.

Governor Alia revealed that his administration is already working towards procuring Hilux vans and motorcycles that would enable the security outfit to access the nooks and crannies of the state.

The Governor lauded the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the security agencies in securing the country, particularly Benue state.

According to him, the launching of the State-owned security outfit will aid in securing Benue communities to enable farmers return to their various farm lands.

Over the years, Benue state has recorded a series of attacks by suspected Fulani herders.

Following the attacks which has also become a daily incident, about three million indigenes across the state have been sacked from their ancestral homes, forcing them to dwell in the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camps.
