CPAN Eko Akete 2024: Dignitaries, Stakeholders honoured with special awards at Dinner/Award Night

The Dinner/Award Night of the 2nd International Scientific Conference, Eko Akete 2024, of the Clinical Pharmacists Association of Nigeria (CPAN), which ended the 4-day event, was a memorable and remarkable one.

Held at NECA House Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, the entertaining event was chaired by a healthcare practitioner, specialising as a Pharmacist in Zaria, Kaduna, Nigeria, Prof. Umar Usman Pateh; and co-chaired by the Chairman, Board of Fellows, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (BOF-PSN), Chief Dr. Joel Adagadzu, PhD, FPSN.

In his remarks, the National Chairman of CPAN, Dr. Joseph Madu appreciated the contributions of the awardees who are well deserving of the honours presented to them. He also noted that the event awards were to celebrate the significant roles played by key stakeholders in CPAN and the pharmaceutical industry in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, presentations of awards were given to individuals and groups, for excellent abstract presentations and well-performing branches of CPAN respectively.

A special award of honour was given to Pharm Brigadier General Stella Ibeh who climbed the top of her career becoming a Brigadier General in the Nigerian Army. She was also given the Special Ambassador of the Clinical Pharmacists Association of Nigeria (SCPAN). Ibeh attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, for her Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree, which she obtained in 1998. She also obtained a master’s degree in Pharmaceutics from the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Microbiology of the same institution in 2009.

The Special Ambassador of the Clinical Pharmacists Association of Nigeria (SCPAN) was also given to Dr. David Babalola, Prof Bolajoko Ayinla, and Pharm Olumide Akintayo. While Air Commodore (Pharm.) David Babalola is the Deputy Director, Doctrinal Development, Air Warfare Centre, Nigerian Air Force, Abuja; Prof. Aina is a Clinical Pharmacy specialist with focus on Health Promotion and Rational use of drugs, and former Dean at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos (UNILAG). On the other hand, Pharm Olumide Akintayo is the 20th President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and a renowned Pharmacist who was one of the pioneer students of the West Africa Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) and one-time Secretary of the Faculty of Community Pharmacy of the College.

More so, CPAN Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Pharm Sir Ike Onyechi, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer at Alpha Pharmacy Ltd., a fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy (NAPharm); and the West African Post Graduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP). Onyechi is also a member of the Board of Trustees of ACPN and NAIP, sitting on the Board of the Diocese Lagos West Hospital, Ikeja and Neimeth Nigeria Plc.

Crowning the awards, Distinguished Prof Cecilia Igwilo, became the first female to receive the award of Grand Ambassador of CPAN award. Igwilo is a Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Lagos being Nigeria’s first female professor of Pharmacy. Prof. Igwilo is also the First Vice President of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) in 2017 and served as the Chief Examiner, Editor in Chief and Chairman, Faculty of Drug Production and Quality Assurance of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists. In 2021, she emerged the Vice-President of ECOWAS Regional Council for Health Professionals Education (ERCHPE) while she was serving as the President of WAPCP.
