The scheduled public rally against malnutrition organised by the by the West African Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (WASPEN) in partnership with Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and Fidson Healthcare Plc has held at the early hours of today.

Held to mount a public campaign and ramping up awareness against malnutrition, and promoting healthier living in Nigeria, the walk commenced at 9a.m. from Hall 36 Carpark through Ojuelegba-Bishop Street and then back to LUTH.

At the public rally were, the First Lady of Lagos State, Her Excellency, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, represented by Director of Nursing, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Shonibare Dorcas Olukemi Oluyemisi; and the Chairman of Fidson Healthcare Plc, Fidelis Ayebae, represented by the company’s Head of Marketing, Pharm Friday Enaholo.

Also part of the walk are, Founder of WASPEN, Dr. Teresa Pounds who came in from the United States; President of the Association of Resident Doctors, LUTH, Dr. Adesiyakan Adedotun, among others.

The Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Prof. Wasiu ‘Lanre Adeyemo, who is the Chief Host of the event, represented by the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Bellow Babawale Bello, received the health practitioners at LUTH after the walk.

Under the theme “Advancing Clinical Nutrition Care: Regional Guidelines and Standards for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition”, the WASPEN 2024 Conference continues till Friday June 7, 2024 at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Hall 36, Lagos State, Nigeria.

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-olu is the Chief Host of the event. While the Chairman of the occasion is the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Federal Ministry of Health, Professor Ali Muhammed Pate; the Host is the Chief Medical Director, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Professor Wasiu ‘Lanre Adeyemo (FAS).

Keynote Speaker of the conference is the Special Adviser on Health to the Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi. Special Guests are the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Professor Cyril Usifoh, and the President of the Dietitians Association of Nigeria (DAN), Professor Olivia Afam-Anene.
