The Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University, Ogun State, Professor Peace Chinedum Babalola has been scheduled as the Convocation Lecturer at the 6th Convocation Ceremony of Corona College of Education, Lagos.
The Convocation lecture is titled “Private Intervention in Tertiary Education in Nigeria: Problems, Products and Prospects.”
The convocation ceremony which is also the 10th anniversary of the College, will hold by 10am on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Corona School, Gbagada 2-10, Olujobi Crescent, Gbagada, Lagos State.
Babalola is known as a “woman of many firsts” because of her pioneering and remarkable achievements in her career. She became a registered pharmacist in 1984, becoming one of the first few women to become a professor of Pharmacy in Nigeria. She was the first female professor of Pharmacy at the University of Ibadan. She was the first female dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ibadan. She was the first female Director of studies for the University of Ibadan. She was the first female pharmacist inducted as Fellow, Nigerian Academy of Science – the highest scientific award in Nigeria. She was also the first female Nigerian inducted as Fellow, African Academy of Sciences.
Professor Babalola is a MacArthur grant fellow who pioneered the Centre for Drug Discovery, Development and Production (CDDDP), an initiative envisioned to build capacity for Africans to manufacture and regulate medicines. She was twice selected as one of the 10 most influential female scientists in Nigeria and has received several awards including the African Union Kwame Nkrumah Regional Prize for Scientific Excellence.
Recall that CEOAFRICA reported Babalola’s address at a high-level stakeholder meeting organised African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation (APTF) held in Abuja. She is also among world professionals who spoke at the International Conference on Innovation, Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer in Africa’s Pharmaceutical Sector, holding on Monday, March 25 and Tuesday, March 26, 2024, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Recently, she was the Keynote Speaker at the at the World Sickle Cell Anaemia Awareness Day 2024 marked by Sickle Cell Hope Alive Foundation (SCHAF) in honour of Late Chief Ogundoyin held on Wednesday, 19th, June 2024.
