The Federal Government has declared its zero-tolerance policy for corruption and indiscipline within the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Sen. George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), made this announcement during a strategic meeting in Abuja with Sectors and Zonal Commanding Officers (ZCOs) from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Akume, represented by Dr. Maurice Mbaeri, Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, stressed that the administration is aiming for zero road accidents and expects great efforts from the FRSC to achieve this goal.

He encouraged senior officers to uphold integrity and rigorously supervise their personnel to ensure effective traffic management.

Akume praised the Corps for its proactive approach to improving road safety and noted that President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Malam Shehu Mohammed as FRSC Corps Marshal in May 2024 has set high expectations based on his track record.

The theme of the meeting, “Equipping Commanding Officers for Effective Performance,” highlights the need for the Corps to assess its activities, review its strategies, and identify areas for improvement.

Akume revealed the importance of the FRSC in realizing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and stressed the need for commitment to achieving the agency’s goals.

The SGF assured that the Tinubu administration will continue to collaborate with international partners like the World Bank and provide necessary support to the FRSC.

He also stated that the Renewed Hope Agenda represents a serious commitment to improving service delivery, which will benefit future generations.

Akume urged the FRSC to continue its efforts, collaborate with other security and traffic management agencies, and utilize the resources from the strategy session to enhance road safety.

“There is no doubt that this strategy session is a means to coordinate the big bold steps needed to realize your ambitious goals for the corps.

“With the government’s support, the corps can record substantive achievement of its Corporate Strategic Goals as envisaged in the 2024 Agenda.

“You are all to note, therefore that your agency is critical to the achievement of the developmental goals of this government, being a front-line service delivery entity.

“You are therefore enjoined to commit to achieving these mandates and to live above board while doing so.

“The Federal Government will not tolerate any form of corrupt practices and indiscipline among officers and men, “he said.

He expressed optimism that these measures will lead to a safer motoring environment and align with the administration’s objectives.

“I am optimistic that Commanding Officers will be better equipped by the proceeds of this strategy session to work assiduously towards the creation of safer motoring environment in Nigeria.

“It is therefore expected that the judicious pursuit of further working tools and subsequent implementation of the corps’ current policy thrust will pave way for the entrenchment of a sustainable road safety culture.

“It will also accelerate the alignment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of this administration.

“I therefore charge the corps to commit to deliberate actions that will ensure its operations are geared towards area that will add value and improved safety, adherence to traffic rules and sustained safety management in Nigeria,” he said.
