The House of Representatives has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to include in its election guidelines Nigerians with temporary voters cards in the final list of those eligible to vote in the February polls.

In a motion moved by the House Minority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, under matters of urgent national importance, the House directed INEC to include in its election guidelines the names of those with temporary voters cards as being eligible to vote

The motion was unanimously adopted.

Debating the motion at plenary, Gbajabiamila said that there is the urgent need every Nigerian name to be included in the voters register and that some people will not be able to vote February 14 unless the House wades into the issue of Nigerians yet to get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

"INEC has been and is still issuing permanent voters' cards to eligible voters in replacement of the temporary voters' cards issued to Nigerians about four years ago", the House expressed concern that "the general elections being just four weeks or 31 days from now, it is very unlikely that the commission will be able to distribute the permanent voters' cards to all registered and eligible voters before the elections."
