The spokesperson of the Delta state police command has asked why parents keep their mentally challenged children in their homes.

According to Edafe, such children end up killing their parents. He stated this while reacting to the news of a ‘mentally challenged’' man who allegedly k!lled his mum and set her body ablaze.

‘’So this young man of 25 years allegedly killed his mum with an Axe and set her body ablaze, then made away with her Sienna vehicle. Rumor has it that the suspect might be mentally deraigned. Well, that's for the court and medical doctors to determine. However, why keep a child who has a mental issue at home instead of a psychiatric home? Oftentimes these mentally deraigned children end up killing their parents and the people who have been pampering and taking care of them.''

The proprietress of His Majesty Group of Schools in Sapele, Delta State, Mrs Fatima Umukoro, was allegedly m8rdered by her 25-year-old son, Emmanuel Umukoro, on Saturday night, September 8, 2024.

The deceased was the wife of Rev Prince Umukoro, the resident pastor of Victory Family Assembly Int'l (VIFA) and a well-known figure in Sapele. It was gathered that Emmanuel had been allegedly grappling with mental health issues exacerbated by suspected substance abuse. Despite undergoing rehabilitation, his struggle with drug addiction persisted, leading to subsequent unpredicted violent outbursts. According to reports, the suspect hacked his mother to d£ath with an axe and set her body ablaze.
