Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has described the death of ace photojournalist, Mr. Peter Oyeyemi Obe, as a huge loss of a patriot who carved a niche for himself in his profession.

The Governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, noted that Obe redefined photojournalism
on account of his adventurous and daring coverage of the 30-month Nigerian civil war  and turned what was hitherto regarded as a hobby to a dignified profession.

Dr. Fayemi said the deceased brought dignity to the photographic section of the media which has grown in leaps and bounds since the likes of Obe pioneered a revolution in the sub-sector. He described Obe as a “mobile museum of all the important historical events in the country”.

The Governor further described Obe as “an authority on the socio-political history of Nigeria who was there to capture unforgettable landmarks” for the benefits of his countrymen.

Dr. Fayemi described Obe as a very diligent professional whose contribution would remain a reference point for generations yet unborn.

The Governor pointed out Obe was always in the thick of the action to use his lens to capture memorable occasions in the history of the country.

He urged the family members of the deceased to be consoled by the positive contributions of their patriarch to the media profession and the country as well as the good name he left behind.
