CEOAFRICA.com received a report from Nairobi that the Constitutional Court in Kenya is set to hear lawsuit sponsored by a civil organization which hope to block President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, from appearing at the tribunal in International Criminal Court.

Until they complete their five-year terms in office.

Sources said both leaders are currently standing trial of crimes against humanity for their alleged roles in orchestrating ethnic violence after the 2007-2008 elections. The violence witnessed the death of more than 1,100 people.

Meanwhile, both trials would not begin same time, as the vice-president’s trial starts next week, while the president’s own begins towards the end of the year. The National Conservative Forum thereby wishes to argue that the country’s constitution does not provide a legal mechanism for delegating authority if both officials are outside the country at the same time. They also said the absence of leaders could spark national protest and ethnic tensions.

Mr. Kenyatta, despite the charges against him, won the Presidential election in March.
