Members of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, paid a visit to detained human rights activist, Mr. Dele Farotimi, at the Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Friday.
The group also expressed disappointment over the decision of the Magistrate to deny Farotimi bail.
Afenifere’s Deputy Secretary-General, Alade Rotimi-John, confirmed that the delegation was sent by the National Leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, to check on Farotimi, who is a member of Afenifere’s National Caucus.
Rotimi-John, in a statement, said, “On behalf of their National Leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the National Caucus Leaders of Afenifere paid a solidarity visit to Mr. Dele Farotimi, who is a member of the National Caucus of Afenifere, at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre to deliver a private message from Chief Adebanjo and to enquire about his wellbeing.”
He also expressed dissatisfaction with the Chief Magistrate’s handling of Farotimi’s case, stating that it was unjust for the Magistrate to have refused to grant bail for a bailable offense, especially since Farotimi’s detention was already considered a miscarriage of justice.
“Afenifere will wait to consider its next line of action after the ruling of the Chief Magistrate on December 20,” Rotimi-John added.
The National Caucus Leaders present at the visit included Chief Supo Shonibare, Basorun Segun Sanni, Mrs. Nike Olujembola, Mrs. Toyin Falade, Pastor Olayemi Olajuyinnu, and Mr. Tunde Babarinde, among others
