Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has announced plans to distribute N3 billion to victims of last year’s devastating floods in the state.

Speaking during the 23rd State Executive Council meeting at Kano Government House on Wednesday, Yusuf disclosed that the funds were part of a federal intervention for the 2024 flood disaster, allocated to all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed that the money had been received months earlier and was carefully managed to ensure it reached the rightful beneficiaries.

“We have identified the genuine victims and documented how much each person is entitled to. With these preparations in place, the distribution will now commence,” Yusuf assured.

The governor also revealed that committees tasked with the disbursement had been inaugurated and would work across the state’s 44 Local Government Areas to deliver the funds to those affected.

Efforts to track flood-hit areas and victims were supported by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and international donor organisations, ensuring a comprehensive and transparent process.

Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prudence, accountability, and responsiveness in providing relief to flood victims and helping them rebuild their lives.
