A yet-to-be-confirmed number of people have been k!lled, while others sustained injuries after a trailer lost control on the Muhammadu Buhari Bridge in Kano.

The ill-fated vehicle, reportedly heading to the southern part of the country, overturned while navigating the underpass tunnel that connects the Zaria highway and the ring road.

Eyewitnesses said the trailer, carrying both people and goods, lost control while coming from Maiduguri Road. Shu’aibu Hamisu, a witness at the scene, confirmed that many victims died on the spot while others were rescued with severe injuries.

A social media user, Yahya Abubakar Sadiq, who reported the incident online, said, "At least more than twenty people were involved. Some have lost their lives, while others sustained serious injuries."

Similar accidents involving trailers have been reported at the same spot multiple times in the past year. Business operators in the area attributed the crashes to drivers underestimating the dangers of manoeuvring under the bridge at high speed.

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed they were still gathering details on the accident.
