The prestigious University of Ibadan is set to host its 45th University Inaugural Lecture, featuring the esteemed Professor Mohammed Kuta Yahaya as the keynote speaker. The event will take place on March 6, 13, and 20, 2025, at 3:00pm daily, in the illustrious Trenchard Hall. This annual lecture series promises to be one of the most significant academic gatherings of the year.
This year’s thought-provoking theme, "Decolonizing Food Security for Enduring Multi-Sectoral Pathways to Poverty Mitigation in Nigeria," will critically address the pressing challenges of food insecurity and economic inequality that affect millions. Professor Yahaya, drawing on his extensive knowledge and experience, will present innovative solutions and strategies aimed at fostering sustainable development and inspiring collective action.
The event invites a diverse audience, including policymakers, faculty members, academics, stakeholders in agriculture and rural development, students, and the broader community, to engage in critical discussions that could promote meaningful change in both policy and practice. As Nigeria grapples with mounting socio-economic challenges, the insights shared by Professor Yahaya will be invaluable in shaping a more equitable society.
With a career that spans both academia and public service, Professor Yahaya has served as a former Commissioner in two ministries and as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Niger State. His wealth of experience and contributions to agricultural education, research, and governance enhance the relevance of his insights during this important discussion. Born on October 20, 1962, he embarked on his academic journey at the Government Teachers College in Wushishi in 1975, eventually earning an NCE in Agriculture from the Niger State College of Education in 1984. He holds a B.Sc. in Agricultural Science Education from the University of Calabar, an M.Sc. in Science Education, and a Ph.D. from the University of Ibadan, which he obtained in 1995.
Currently, Professor Yahaya serves as the Pro-Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University in Minna. His extensive background in agricultural and forestry education positions him as a leading authority in the field, making him a fitting choice as the speaker for this landmark lecture.
The University of Ibadan, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor K. O. Adebowale, continues to champion intellectual discourse through its annual lecture series. This year's theme is particularly significant in light of the urgent issues of food insecurity and poverty facing Nigeria today.
We invite you to join us for this crucial dialogue on food security and poverty alleviation; your participation could help pave the way for a more equitable future. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of an engaging exchange of ideas that will resonate beyond the university setting.
