In a significant milestone for the Nigerian pharmacy profession, Pharm. Lizette Njideka Ezenekwe has been appointed to the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Business Hub for a two-year tenure, commencing March 2025. As the National Publicity Secretary of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) Anambra State Chapter, her appointment is a testament to her exceptional contributions and leadership within the field.
A dual expert in clinical pharmacy and climatology, Pharm. Ezenekwe serves as a lecturer in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Management at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where she has been instrumental in educating the next generation of pharmacists. She also teaches climate studies in the Department of Geography, highlighting her unique ability to integrate health and environmental issues—a vital perspective in today's world.
Her research interests span public health, evidence-based clinical trials, climate change, and neglected tropical diseases, illustrating her commitment to addressing pressing global health challenges. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Pharmacy, her research focuses on overcoming barriers related to drug revolving funds in Nigerian tertiary institutions, which could significantly improve medication accessibility.
Lizette’s academic credentials are impressive, including an M.Sc. in Climatology and a Certificate in Mediation and Conflict Management from Harvard Law School. Her extensive experience in academia, coupled with her active leadership roles—such as Secretary of the Advocacy Committee for PSN and Chairman of the Induction Planning Committee at her university—demonstrates her dynamic approach to advancing pharmacy practice in Nigeria.
A women leader per excellence, her leadership role within the PSN underscores her dedication to advancing the pharmacy profession in Nigeria. She has been a staunch advocate for pharmacists' roles in health care and has worked tirelessly to promote education, advocacy, and policy reform that recognizes the vital contributions of pharmacists.
In her new role at the FIP Business Hub, Pharm. Ezenekwe will serve as a Global Lead for Development Goal 21 – Sustainability in Pharmacy. This position gives her the opportunity to shape international policies that integrate sustainable practices into pharmacy operations globally. Appointed as DG 21 Global Lead, her immense contributions in three different aspect of Clinical Pharmacy, Climate Change and Law reveal the extraordinary experiences she is bringing on board at the FIP hub.
