Police find children abandoned in Mararaba

The Nasarawa State Police Command is seeking public assistance to identify and reunite two young girls found abandoned near Mararaba Junction, Karu Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the children were discovered by a resident of Ungwan Gwandara on March 12, 2025, at approximately 1700 hours.

Police operatives swiftly responded to the report, recovered the children safely, and brought them to the Mararaba ‘B’ Division.

The girls, identified as Fatima Isah (10 years old) and Halima Isah (8 years old), told police during an interview that they were taken from Kasuwan Bera, Jalingo, Taraba State, by an unknown driver and were forcibly abandoned in Mararaba.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has urged members of the public with any information regarding the children, their families, or the circumstances surrounding their transportation to come forward,” Nansel stated in the statement.

Nansel assured the public that all information provided will be treated with utmost confidentiality.

He added that efforts are currently ongoing to trace the children’s families and investigate how they were transported and abandoned.

The Nasarawa State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of all residents, especially vulnerable children.
