In an exclusive interview with CEOAFRICA, Mr. Alao Emmanuel Oluwatomiwa, a committee member of the Mega Poultry Workshop for PAN Oyo State, highlighted the evolving landscape of poultry farming, emphasizing its transition from traditional farming methods to a thriving agri-business ecosystem. He expressed a clear vision for fostering collaboration among all stakeholders within the poultry sector, which he believes is vital for achieving sustainable growth and development.

“We have discovered that poultry farming has gone beyond just farming; it’s now a trend of agri-business,” Oluwatomiwa stated. “It’s a value chain where not only farmers are involved but also all stakeholders who contribute to producing, selling, and providing inputs. This realization led us to invite every stakeholder in the industry to participate in this year’s workshop.”

He noted that the collaboration established during the workshop aims to ensure comprehensive development across all aspects of the poultry business. “Let’s reason together and explore how we can synergize so that all of us can develop the industry without facing deficiencies in any area. That’s why this year’s workshop is more intense, bringing together every player in the poultry industry under one umbrella,” he explained.

Oluwatomiwa also offered advice to the younger generation, encouraging them to view agri-business—especially poultry farming—as a long-term, viable career option. “I would advise the youth to see agri-business, particularly poultry business, as one with future benefits. It isn’t just a business focused on immediate profits; it’s a continuous journey where you grow for life,” he emphasized. “The more you grow, the more knowledge you acquire about the business, including how to navigate and manage challenges as they arise.”

He underscored the importance of approaching poultry farming with an innovative mindset, advocating for a focus on the value chain that can attract more young people into the industry. “Understanding that this is an agri-business means recognizing the potential it holds for sustainable livelihoods and contributions to food security,” he added.

Oluwatomiwa’s insights reflect a broader understanding of the systemic issues within the Nigerian poultry industry and the need for collective action to address these challenges. He firmly believes that with more support from the government, including investment in training and infrastructure, the youth could be empowered to take active roles within the poultry sector.

As the workshop progressed, the overarching theme was clear: collaboration and innovation in agri-business are essential for the future of poultry farming in Nigeria. The insights shared by Oluwatomiwa and other attendees during the event illuminated the importance of working together to build a sustainable and prosperous agricultural landscape that can provide quality protein and economic opportunities for generations to come.

As the dialogue continues within the poultry community, the vision for a collaborative future stands strong, with the potential to not only improve the poultry industry but also inspire young Nigerians to embark on fulfilling careers in agriculture.
