On Saturday, April 5th, the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology (FCAH&PT) rounded off its vibrant 61st Anniversary Convocation with a captivating Alumni Day at Dr. K.J. Nwufoh Hall, celebrating the achievements of its graduates and fostering connections among alumni. The event offered a platform for alumni to reflect on the past, acknowledge their roots, and discuss the future of the institution as it continues to evolve.

The President of the Alumni Association, Mr. W.O. Lumpkin, opened the ceremony with a warm welcome, stating, “Exactly one year ago, we celebrated the diamond anniversary of this great college, laying the foundation for our alumni building. We honor the vision and efforts of the founding fathers and mothers of this esteemed institution and recognize the contributions of all staff in elevating the college to its prestigious standing today.”

He spotlighted the legacy of Dr. (Mrs.) Crochet, a respected lecturer and former principal, who significantly impacted the learning experience of many students. “In recognition of her dedication, we are proud to have established the annual Crochet Award of Excellence to perpetuate her memory and showcase the rich history of our college for generations to come,” Lumpkin added. “This occasion also serves as a reminder for alumni members appointed as staff to remain great ambassadors of FCAH&PT.”

Mr. Lumpkin encouraged members, particularly those who are captains of industry, to leverage their roles as influential representatives of the college. He called for support for the ongoing construction of the alumni building, emphasizing that it is a communal effort essential for the benefit of past, present, and future students.

The Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Ademola Moshood Raji, represented by Dr. Chidi, reflected on the impact of the pioneers who laid the foundation for the college's success. “As we honor the achievements of our alumni, we acknowledge the tireless efforts of our faculty and staff, who have molded our alumni and contributed to their success,” he noted. “This alumni program provides a unique opportunity to reconnect, share ideas, and forge partnerships that can propel us forward.”

Dr. Adekoya Olatunde Owosibo, the Provost of FCAH&PT, expressed gratitude for the support received from the alumni. “The alumni association has played a crucial role in our institution, providing facilities and ongoing projects such as the alumni building. I want to thank each of you for paving the way for current students and for the generous scholarships and job opportunities you have offered,” he said. He also announced the upcoming initiative to name laboratories after distinguished alumni, further solidifying their legacy within the college.

The alumni lecture delivered by Mr. Ayooluwa Okediji, a proud alumnus and the Founder/CEO of AgroinfoTech Africa, resonated deeply with attendees. “Today is a time to reflect on our progress, pay tribute to the influences that have shaped us, and look forward to the bright future ahead. My journey into agriculture began with a desire to resolve challenges within our communities,” he shared. Okediji emphasized that the college doesn’t just confer degrees but instills resilience, leadership, and a commitment to service in its graduates.

He went on to advocate for the evolution of the college as a hub for agricultural transformation, stating, “As alumni, we must engage in fostering digital skills, promoting an entrepreneurial mindset, and ensuring that the curriculum aligns with industry demands. Our college must produce graduates who are not only employable but excel in their fields, equipped to drive innovation and address the challenges in Nigeria's agricultural sector.”

The event culminated with the presentation of awards to outstanding alumni, acknowledging their contributions to various industries, followed by the inauguration of new representatives for the upcoming alumni year.

Attendees at this memorable occasion included Prof. Samuel Soladoye Abiola, an acclaimed scholar and Professor of Animal Science; Dr. Omolara Jemimah Ojezele, Chair of the Local Organizing Committee; Dr. Rotimi Ajayi, the alumnus coordinator, along with numerous faculty members, administrators, and alumni.

As the program closed, the spirit of camaraderie and determination filled the room, reinforcing the bond among alumni and their commitment to supporting their alma mater. The FCAH&PT Alumni Day not only honored past accomplishments but set the stage for future collaborations, ensuring that the college continues to thrive and innovate in agricultural education.
