
The Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board has stated that it will begin the process of seizing the properties of retired civil servants who have refused to pay housing loans. This statement was made by the Head of Information and public Relations Mrs Ngozi Obechina in Abuja.
Ngozi Obechina made the statement on Thursday where she explained that the aim of the movement was to recover unpaid mortgaged properties. She also explained that the body had began the compilation of the list of defaulted among the retired civil servants.
The Executive secretary of the Board, Mrs Salamatu Ahmed explained that a memo had recently been issued by the permanent secretary of the Career management office Mrs Patience Oyekunle which reminded public servants to obtain a certificate of non indebtedness as a precondition for retirement.
Salamatu Ahmed also emphasised that the FGSHLB would take legal actions to ensure repossession of properties, adhering to the loan agreements given.
”I am directed to bring to your attention the provision of Public Service Rule (PSR) 021002 (p), which mandates all public servants to obtain a Certificate of Non-Indebtedness as a prerequisite for retirement.” she said.
She also explained that the board will soon commence action.
“The Federal Government will commence the seizure of mortgaged properties belonging to retiring federal public servants who have failed to fully repay housing loans obtained from the board,” she said.
Salamatu Ahmed also advised affected public servants to obtain the necessary clearance certificates in order to avoid bring affected by this directive.
