
As his tenure as the Provost and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology (FCAH&PT) in Moor Plantation, Ibadan, approaches its conclusion, Dr. Adekoya Olatunde Owosibo leaves behind a legacy of remarkable transformation and advancement within the institution. Since his appointment in 2020, Dr. Owosibo has spearheaded initiatives that have solidified FCAH&PT's reputation as a leading center for animal science education in Nigeria.
Dr. Owosibo’s tenure has been characterized by his unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of education and impactful training for students, stakeholders, and the broader community. In a recent address, he emphasized the college’s mission, stating, "This great college is constantly doing its best in reproducing graduates of National and Higher National Diploma levels that are morally sound, professionally skillful, and enterprising for sustainable agriculture, science, and rural development in Nigeria.” Under his leadership, the college has successfully trained over 15,000 students since its inception in 1964.
One of Dr. Owosibo’s key accomplishments has been fostering collaborations with both public and private organizations, which have opened numerous opportunities in areas such as training, entrepreneurship, and infrastructural development. His strategic vision has galvanized support for the college, expanding its reach and effectiveness in promoting sustainable practices in animal health and production.
Central to his success has been the recruitment of a highly qualified faculty, now comprising more than 60 PhD holders and over 200 MSc holders. This robust academic environment not only enhances the learning experience for students but also positions the college as a hub for research and innovation in animal science. Dr. Owosibo’s emphasis on faculty development has laid a strong foundation for academic excellence, ensuring that students receive high-quality education and mentorship.
As part of his ongoing initiatives, Dr. Owosibo recently oversaw the commissioning of a New Central Security and Monitoring Office during the college's recent convocation and the 61st Anniversary Founder’s Day. This enhancement in infrastructure exemplifies FCAH&PT's proactive approach to providing a safe and conducive learning environment for its community.
Beyond academic and infrastructural advancements, Dr. Owosibo has demonstrated a commitment to public health through community engagement. In collaboration with Zonta International and Planned Parenthood International, the college organized road show/awareness campaign, health talks and screenings on International Women’s Day, providing vital cervical and prostate cancer screenings to approximately 500 individuals. These initiatives showcase Dr. Owosibo's holistic approach to addressing educational needs and pressing health concerns within the community, reinforcing the college’s role as a responsible and responsive institution.
As Dr. Owosibo’s tenure draws to a close, he reflects on the significant strides taken during his time at FCAH&PT.
