At the 2025 West African Society of Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition (WASPEN) Clinical Nutrition Conference held at the Trauma Center of the National Hospital on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, Prince Cletus Ilobanafor, Managing Director of CEOAFRICA and the initiator of the Geneith Health Competition (GHC), emphasized why this initiative is the largest health competition in Africa.

He made this assertion during a presentation where Pharm. Judith Udeh, the Project Manager for GHC, provided insights into the initiative, which is sponsored by Mr. Emmanuel Umenwa, Managing Director of Geneith Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Powered by Coatal Forte Softgel. Pharm. Udeh highlighted the youth-focused nature of the competition, stating, “The GHC is not just a competition; it is a movement aimed at empowering youth to become champions in the fight to eliminate malaria in Nigeria."

Supporting this sentiment, Pharmacist Ngozi reinforced the notion that "the youth are the future," underscoring the initiative's commitment to engaging young individuals in tackling public health issues. Ilobanafor stated, “The Geneith Health Competition represents the largest effort to mobilize Nigeria's youth in the battle against malaria, positioning them as key players in this critical health challenge.”

The GHC will feature health walks across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, promoting active participation and awareness about malaria prevention and treatment. Notably, the competition is the first initiative in Nigeria to receive backing from the Federal Government, student unions at universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, as well as various stakeholders in health and education.

As part of the initiative, participants will engage in various activities, including outreach programs and research presentations focused on malaria prevention strategies. This holistic approach aims to foster critical thinking and transform participants into health ambassadors for their communities.

The GHC encourages parents and educators to support the initiative by motivating students to participate, as it enables them to gain invaluable health knowledge while empowering them to make a meaningful difference in the fight against malaria.

In conclusion, Pharm. Udeh urged attendees to recognize the transformative potential of the Geneith Health Competition, calling on all eligible students to get involved. “Together, we can build a healthier Nigeria and create lasting change,” she concluded.
